JudaismThe Ten Commandments

God's will for people is shown most clearly in the Ten Commandments. They are:

  1. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of bondage. You shall have no other gods but me
Meaning, to love and obey God, and to bring others to know him.
  2. You shall not make for your self any idol
Meaning, to put nothing in the place of God.
  3. You shall not invoke with malice the Name of the Lord your God
Meaning, to show God respect in thought, word, and deed.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy
Meaning, to set aside regular times for worship, prayer, and the study of God's ways.
  5. Honor your father and your mother
Meaning, to love, honor, and help our parents and family; to honor those in authority, and to meet their just demands.
  6. You shall not commit murder
Meaning, to show respect for the life god has given us; to work, and pray for peace; to bear no malice, prejudice, or hatred in our hearts.
  7. You shall not commit adultery
Meaning, to use our bodily desires as God intended.
  8. You shall not steal
Meaning, to be honest and fair in our dealings.
  9. You shall not be a false witness
Meaning, to speak the truth, and not to mislead others by our silence.
  10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor
Meaning, to resist temptations to envy, greed, and jealousy: to rejoice in other people's gifts, and graces; and to do our duty for the love of God, who has called us into fellowship with him.

Religion!  What to believe?

If you die tomorrow, are you going to go to Heaven?

"Gee, I wish I knew ...." is the typical answer.

Well, what do the major religions say?

Judaism says there is a Heaven, and the way to Heaven is simply through faith in the Lord, and fulfill God's will.  God's will is found most clearly in The 10 Commandments.

Islam says there is a Paradise (Heaven), and the way to Paradise is to adhere to the teachings of the Koran, ardent devotion, and performing good deeds.

Hinduism says that the goal is to achieve a "higher state of being" with Brahman (God), and the the way is through Reincarnation in a new body, and thereby, improving the Soul, to achieve Oneness with Brahman.

Christianity says there is a Heaven, and the way to Heaven is to follow a fellow by the name of Jesus, his teachings and instructions, whom God sent down to planet Earth to help people understand.

Buddhism says there is not a Heaven, and the goal is achieve the state of Nirvana, which is a condition, and not a place such as Heaven, or Paradise.

The other isms (Humanism, Narcissism, Agnosticism, Monism, Atheism, and the like) all say it's a bunch of malarkey, a bunch of nonsense.

Which is correct?

This book gets to the core issues -- the key questions. You do not have to read the entire library to understand the differences!

It ask the same questions of each religion:

A Creator?  Origin of Earth? Origin of humankind?

Origin of evil and suffering?

A messiah?

About reconciling with God? What is each religion's role, their purpose?
